So do you think that there are adoptions in the factions? Like if the parents became factionless or something to that effect. Because I have a character I'm in the process of creating and I would like him to be the child of adopted gay dads but I was unsure on the thoughts of adoption. Any thoughts?

It is possible! A character was JUST made who was adopted! Just think about the faction the adopted parents are in though. For example, would an Erudite logically take in a child that they couldn't afford?

Very true. The two fathers are from Dauntless, where they transferred because they believed they would be accepted, because they were "brave enough" to be open about their relationship. They were accepted by a few but they wanted a child and were forced to adopt outside of their faction. So they adopted an Abnegation son, raised him Dauntless, and then transferred to Erudite. Fighting for his family all along the way.
Or, at least that's what I'm thinking...

Well Courtney has the final word on it But may I ask why he was an Abnegation boy? Did something happen to his parents? It seems like Abnegation would never give up a child unless they were both dead or something.

I'm working on the specifics of the adoption but since Erik & Clark (his dads) were recieving greif from Dauntless (as I'm seeing it) I figured that Abnegation would be the most accepting of their desire to adopt, due to their inability to have children. I don't see it as parents just giving up a child, there will be some extenuating circumstances involved.

One of my characters was adopted, and Sydnee just created a character who was adopted. So it's definitely okay. If the child was Abnegation, though, the circumstances couldn't be that the parents are still alive, because that would mean they were giving up their child, which is pretty selfish. Unless they phrase it being they were not able to take care of the baby, and by giving it up to two willing parents, it would be acceptable because that would be selfless. As long as it's seen as selfless on the Abnegation parents' part, it's totally fine.

I assumed it would be due to a family death but I was unsure of just what would happen. A fire is too cliche, not enough cars to kill an entire family, I'm thinking that I'll just leave that open for exploration later and that'll be one of my character's driving forces for transferring to Erudite (access to the archives)

Just mentioning a death is fine, especially if the character isn't sure how.
