Dimitri felt uncharacteristically nervous when Amberly looked at his stomach. His stomach preformed acrobatics and he found himself preoccupied with thoughts he would have once deemed girly-- did he look good enough for her? Did she like what she saw? Would she laugh at him? He felt a wave of relief when he dropped his shirt, then studied her face for any sign of what she might have been thinking. Amberly was blushing. Was that a good sign or a bad sign?
"Another ice age would be lovely," Dimitri shook off the nerves. "It would be in the best interest of the world, I think, if you were to expand your rule. Imagine, not a single molecule of water would ever have to be afraid again, no matter what state it was in," he sighed in a wistful manor, though a small smile spread across his face.
When Amberly stumbled over her words trying to explain herself, Dimitri couldn't help but smile. He liked the fact that she could still be modest while trying her hardest to be honest. He didn't, however, like having his suspicions concerned. "You don't sound conceited," he told her simply. Dimitri wanted so badly to reach out and touch her, if only a reassuring squeeze of the arm, but more than that, he wanted to be the only one to be able to do so.

Amberly was drawn out of her dazed stupor that had been brought on by the revealing of Dimitri's stomach, when Dimitri began speaking again. She smiled at their ice topic, still amused. She felt it would be an ongoing joke between the two. Or, at least, she hoped. "I could keep water across the world safe," she said in exclamation. "And the creatures from the past known as polar bears could be brought back and kept safe with my icy power," she decided. She had seen a picture of the furry creatures in a history textbook once. Their home had more or less melted, and they had died out with any land. It was a sad story, and she had a soft spot for the extinct creatures. It was too bad what she and Dimitri were speaking about was just a joke.
She softly smile in relief when Dimitri told her that she did not sound conceited. Although it was not something she held against her cousin, she did not want to be labelled as self-obsessed. It just wasn't her. "I'm glad, then," she admitted. "I was trying really hard not to." Her soft smile turned back to one of nerves as she realised there was something that hung between the two of them. Some sort of unspoken want. Perhaps it was just emitting from her, but she did hope Dimitri felt it as well. Whatever it was, she wanted to break the barrier; the metaphorical glass wall. She just wasn't sure how. Only one line had been crossed by her, and that was with Tyler. It had happened out of no where, which made her wonder, Is there a way to break through it oneself? Or is it always random? And why am I always over-thinking things? She sighed aloud with realizing, and felt guilty. Here she was, feeling these things for this Dauntless boy, when she had not long ago been passionately making out with her own cousin. What is WRONG with me?

"What a wonderful idea! You will be adored by all for the restoration of the polar bears we all miss so deeply," Dimitri held his hand to his heart as if overcome with a wave of emotion. Which, in fact, he was, though it had absolutely nothing to do with polar bears or ice. "You, my queen, are a true visionary."
Dimitri laughed when Amberly admitted that she was trying to not sound conceited. "I could tell," he said with a chuckle. "And you did a very good job of it, I assure you." He allowed himself to place his hand on her shoulder, telling himself it would only be for a moment-- a brief touch between friends. Somehow, though, it sent a shock up his arm and he found it impossible to retract his arm, like some unseen force was holding him to her. His hand slid down her arm, having a mind of it's own, and took her hand. His thumb traced patterns on her skin. Almost as soon as his hand closed around hers, he regained control and pulled it back, stuffing the traitor in it's pocket.
Apparently even a touch that innocent could not be trusted, because now all Dimitri could think was that he would like very much to kiss her.

Amberly beamed when he called her queen, even though it was a part of the joke. As a child, she had always wanted to be a princess of some sort. Her father even called her that when she was younger. "Why thank you, Knight," she said, and curtsied again to hide her blush.
Amberly opened her mouth to reply to Dimitri, but stopped when he touched her shoulder. The tension was immaculate, but it was a different type of tension than she was used to. Her head rotated ever so slightly towards his hand as her eyes locked on it, her mouth open slightly from the lost words she had meant to speak. A shiver ran through her, but not one of fear or cold, and she closed her eyes, steadying her heartbeat, which had just then decided to pump a mile a minute. Her eyes flew open a moment later as his hand slid down her arm to take her hand. She shivered again as his thumb carressed her hand, and she was glad, for once, that she had forgotten her gloves at home. But all too soon, he pulled his hand away and Amberly's eyes followed it in a silent protest. Without really thinking about it, Amberly stepped forward and pulled his hand out of the pocket it seemed to be hiding in, and then found his other hand, and held them both in each of her own. Much better, she thought, smiling up at him, forcing herself to be bold and meet his eyes. Once she did, she blushed, still smiling, but did not look away. She couldn't. She couldn't even breathe.

Dimitri almost didn't want to move when Amberly took his hands again, but he found that he still needed her closer. He hoped to God-- or whatever deity may have been watching at that particular moment --that he wasn't overstepping any boundaries when his hands slid from hers and planted themselves on her waist. The last thing he wanted to do was scare her off. It was all he could do to keep himself breathing regularly as he pulled Amberly in close, his eyes and hands hungry.
This was insane. How could he need her so close so desperately when he had only just met her? Dimitri had no experience with love or even deep like, but for just a moment he understood why they called it falling in love. The only other sensation he could compare this to was the weightless sensation he got jumping from the train, or from a building. Nothing else came close.
There was nothing else.
Dimitri distantly registered the sound of another bell ringing in the school below them, but he couldn't be bothered enough to care. Surely that was the last bell of the day, so what difference would it make if he left now? He never wanted to leave this moment.

She must have been breathing because she hadn't passed out, but Amberly felt that air was having a difficult time making it to her lungs as her eyes were locked to Dimitri's. She forgot she was on the roof; she forget that she could fall to her death if she stepped five feet to her left; she forgot Tyler. Whatever was around her at that moment, she forgot existed. It was just her and Dimitri, and the looming something that was between them. The only sound she heard was not the whistling of the wind that blew by, whipping through her hair, but the rapid beating of her heart, pumping hot blood through her veins. The heat; that was all she felt. And her skin felt significantly hotter wherever Dimitri's hand were. As he dropped her hands and placed his own on her waist, drawing her closer, she thought her entire body would erupt in flames. This was it. Forget being a queen of ice. It would melt away with Dimitri around. She was going to combust, she just knew. Cause of death, she thought distantly, [/i]Erupted in flames[/i].
Amberly became briefly away of her breathing now. It must have started up again when he pulled her nearer. She expected it her breathing to be fast to match her heart-rate, but it was slower than normal. Calm. But she did not feel calm. She felt completely out of control. Yest she felt completely aware of herself, and of Dimitri. Just the two of them. Only they existed.
A bell rang in the distance, but Amberly barely heard it. It sounded miles away. Everything else was miles away. Her eyes burned from staring at him for so long, and she blinked, a slow, almost mechanical movement. "Dimitri," she whispered, her lips barely moving as she broke the silence, but still she barely heard her own voice over hammering sound that came from her chest. She was not sure why she spoke his name. She just wanted to hear it. To address him. Her hand found its way to his chest -- she didn't even realise she had moved it. It was like it had a mind of its own. She laid it over his heart, and was aware of her curiosity. Was his heart beating as fast as hers?
It was.

Dimitri could feel his heart pounding in his chest, but he paid no attention to it. His head felt like it was swimming in a deep fog. As perfect as this felt, he was impossibly nervous. His mouth was dry and his stomach was still convinced that it was an acrobat. It didn't make sense that Amberly could do this to him-- make him so happy and so scared at the same time.
What are you?
He let his hand wander up her and rest on the side of her face, cupping it gently. Her skin was as soft and as perfect as he had imagined. When Amberly put her hand to his chest, he felt his heart skip a beat. Dimitri tilted her head up ever so slightly, his eyes studying her lips. He didn't dare kiss them-- not yet --but he couldn't stop himself from brushing his thumb across them, amazed at their perfection. "Amberly, Amberly, Amberly," he murmured her name like a prayer.

How long had they been standing there like that, just staring at each other? Amberly did not know, but she was hoping the moment would last for a while. It was close to perfect, and she had never felt so at peace. She had been taught that peace and calm tied in together, but the way she was feeling was far from calm. Each and every emotion flowing through her body was intense and on fire. She was frozen in this moment, and hoped the ice encasing her there would never melt.
She felt Dimitri's warm hand against her cheek, and she closed her eyes, breaking her gaze from his eyes for a short while. They were still burned in her vision against the darkness of her eyelids. She smiled, and exhaled slowly through her nose, her cheek burning with the fire that seemed to be relentlessly surging through her body. She smiled against his thumb as they touched her lips, a tingling sensation making them feel numb. She knew what she wanted.
Amberly opened her eyes and met Dimitri's eyes again, her heart jumping chest. It was as if when she had her eyes closed, that she was imagining everything. That is was just some dream she was having. And when she opened her eyes... she was proven wrong. Her breathing grew staggered as he murmured her name. The way he said it... She could barely contain herself. No one had every said her name like that. It was almost poetic. If only he spoke her name for the rest of her life, she would never get sick of it. She wasn't sure she could stand there anymore, so far away from him. She wasn't far from him, but it felt like miles now. And it wasn't fair. Her fingers closed around his jacket, clutching the material in her fist. She stepped closer to him, leaning her head against his chest. Closing her eyes, she sighed. She wanted to kiss him, but for some reason she was terrified of crossing that line. She wanted to, but what would happen after? And did he even want to kiss her? I hope so.

It was agony, standing so close to Amberly there but still not being close enough. Dimitri wanted to lift her off her feet, to kiss her so hard that his legs would give way and they could collapse, laughing in each others arms, and not even notice how cold and hard the roof was beneath them. To put it simply, she could never, ever be close enough.
Alarm rippled through him when Amberly placed her head against his chest and Dimitri realized, without a moment to prepare himself for the shock, that he really and truly needed this girl. The sensation was so strange and foreign to him. For so long he had not allowed himself to be the one who needed. He was always the one who fulfilled the needs. He filled the roles others needed him to fill, doing what he could to make life good for those he cared about. With Amberly, he realized, it would be different. He needed her-- such a strange, alien concept --but the beauty of it was that he knew she would never need to bend over backwards to fill a place in his life. She could fill all of them, if she was just herself.
That scared him.
Dimitri knew that he needed to kiss Amberly, now. He simply could not stand to be this close to her and not do so. And so he did. Dimitri took her face in his hands and pressed his lips to hers, lightly at first, but after a moment he could not stop himself any longer. He kissed her hungrily, his lips parted, and they shared the same breath. His heart felt as though it was about to explode.

Absolutely nothing could prepare her for what happened next. Not all of her yoga breathing exercises. Not the stories she had heard or the books she had read. Nothing. As she felt Dimitri's hand on her chin, lifting her face up, Amberly opened her eyes and met his. And they were the last thing she saw before his lips touched hers. Her eyelids fluttered closed and everything changed. This was it. She had crashed into a brick wall and flames were erupting inside of her stomach, causing the butterflies to panic and fly around in the biggest frenzy. They didn't know what to do. She didn't know what to do. The line was crossed and she could not turn back.
She refused to turn back. You would have to drag her by her hair and she would claw her way, fighting tooth and nail, and you would lose. This was what she wanted. Dimitri was what she wanted. What she needed. Never would she have imagined...
Her lips were on fire. Her heart had ignited. Her brain was lost; not a single sensible thought raced through it. She was lost, swept up in the passion and electricity coursing through her. Through them. In this moment, as their lips moved together with such need, such hunger, they were one being. And there was simply no denying that fact. This moment would never end. Not if she had anything to say about it. It didn't matter that he was Dauntless and she was Amity. It didn't matter that they were on a rooftop, five feet from the edge. It didn't matter that not too long ago it had been Tyler she had been kissing. It didn't even count as kissing anymore. It had not felt like this, and nothing ever would. So it didn't matter. All that mattered was Dimitri. All that mattered was them.
Her hand, still clutching his jacket, tried pulling him closer, but there was no more space between them. Their chests pressed together, her head tilted back, his mouth on hers... She wanted more, but this was perfection. This was perfection.
And Amberly knew... She was done for.

Mid-kiss, Dimitri could feel a smile spreading across his face. He couldn't begin to comprehend how perfect this felt, how right. It was infinitely better than he had ever expected, and he never wanted it to end. One hand tangled itself in her hair, and the other pressed against the small of her back. He pressed her so close to him that he thought they might melt into one. It was perfect. This was perfect.
In the fifteen years of his existence, Dimitri didn't think he had ever felt so alive or so perfectly in sync with another human being. He had kissed before, sure, but it was never like this. It was awkward nose bumping and hands that didn't fit and mouths that got tired and bored. With Amberly, however, there was none of that. He could kiss her forever, and still want more.
All too soon, Dimitri found that, strangely, he could not simply live off of the kiss, and needed to catch his breath. The kiss had felt like a lifetime and a second, all at once. Dimitri pulled Amberly even closer, closing his arms around her, and pressed his lips to her hair. He closed his eyes, heart pounding in his chest, and breathed in the scent of her shampoo. He didn't think he had ever smelled something so lovely. He didn't think he had ever touched something so perfect.
"Amberly..." he murmured again, tasting it as it danced off of his tongue. Almost as good as the real thing.

She was convinced that if they ever stopped kissing, the world would end. It was so completely cheesy and childish, but she was completely convinced, and determined to kiss him for the rest of her existance. But her lungs soon began to burn, yearning for air like the rest of her yearned for Dimitri, and she realised she would have to breathe at some point. That did not stop her from making a noise of protest when Dimitri was the one to pull away first. She then laughed breathlessly and rested her head against his chest, her ear somewhere near his heart because she could hear it beating. She smiled when he put his lips to her hair and wrapped her arms around his torso. The outside of his jacket was cold from the air outside, but she hardly noticed.
Her heart still beat rapidly as she caught her breath. She wondered if it would ever beat normally again -- not that she was complaining. Amberly closed her eyes contentedly, feeling more safe in his arms than she ever had in her whole life. Her smile widened and a pleasureful shiver ran through her as he spoke her name again. It was then, as she breathed slowly, that she realized how amazing he smelled. She didn't detect any type of cologne; it was just him that she smelled. And she loved it. "You smell good," she blurted, her voice a quiet murmur. She didn't ever want this moment to end. She never wanted to leave his arms. She could stay there on that roof forever.

Dimitri smiled, his lips still pressed against her head. "You smell good, too," he said with a small laugh. He was torn; he wanted to look at Amberly, to drink her all in again, but he didn't think he could bear to have her even a fraction of an inch farther from him than she was now. He didn't think he could stand not holding her. He would never let go, he decided. Not even for a heartbeat.
If he ever left this roof, he swore his heart would stop beating.
"You're beautiful,"Dimitri murmured. "You're perfect." He didn't care if he was coming on too strong. He didn't care if it wasn't manly or wasn't normal or if his friends would laugh. Amberly was beautiful. She was perfect. And he needed her to know it almost as desperately as he needed her to be his. Dimitri ducked his head slightly, kissing her forehead, her nose, her lips. Soft, fleeting, perfect. He rested his head on top of hers again, thinking that if the world was to end right then in some tragic, fiery explosion, he wouldn't mind one bit.

Was this even really happening? Was she really standing atop the school roof surrounded by ice and snow with a Dauntless whom she had just kissed like she had never kissed anyone before? And was she actually standing there now in his arms as they held each other like nothing could pry them apart, ever? I don't care if it's not real, Amberly decided. If this was just a dream, she would never wake up. Let me slip into a coma. And then she could dream forever.
"I can't be perfect," Amberly whispered, moving her head slightly so she could look at him. A smile danced on her lips and her eyes shone. Had she ever felt this happy? She doubted it. She would have remembered, and this was a moment she would never forget. She doubted even a disease like amnesia could erase it. "Because you hold that title," she continued, blushing. It sounded ridiculously cheesy, but it was true, so she didn't care. "Unless you want to share it," she joked as he kissed her face, and smiled as he kissed her lips.
How was it possible that they had only just met? This felt so right. He felt so right. It was like they were made for each other. There had been an instant connection. She hadn't thought she would believe things like this could happen, but here she was, caring so intensely for someone she had only just been acquainted with. And she had already decided that she couldn't do without him. How was it possible? Perhaps there was no answer except it just was.

Dimitri kissed her again, unable to keep himself from her. "Au contraire," he smiled. "You have to be the most perfect creature I have ever laid eyes on," he ran his hand through Amberly's hair, wondering how he could feel so strongly for someone he had just met. He adored her. He needed her. Which was foolish, of course. He didn't even know her last name. He didn't know anything about her except how perfectly she fit against him and how she tasted like spring, even though it was the dead of winter.
"I think I've lost my mind," Dimitri murmured. "Or, maybe you've lost yours," he said thoughtfully. "After all, it makes perfect sense for me to want you like this," It seemed strange to him how he could admit so much to her but was afraid to admit that he didn't just want her, he needed her. "But what on earth could you want with me? You could have anyone," he laughed, but the thought stung.
Dimitri could feel Amberly's heartbeat, in perfect sync with his. They may have lost their minds, but he would have the time of his life trying to find them again with her.
