Amberly was nervous. And it was obvious.
She sat on a sofa in the lower level of the barn her parents had helped her renovate to turn into her own personal living space. Being a teenaged girl, and being trustworthy Amberly, her parents decided to put use to the old barn that no one used. And so she had moved her bedroom and all of her belongings into the barn, which looked less like a barn on the inside than it did on the out.
The overhead lighting of the barnhouse was dim, but she made-do with lamps. Few were on now, however, as she didn't want to attract too much attention from her parents back at the main house. She had asked Dimitri to come over, and if her parents came out, she would be screwed. Luckily they trusted her completely, and she had told them she would be studying and did not want to be disturbed. Her parents were the least nosy parents she had ever met, so she was not too worried about them coming out to check on her. However, if they did, she would be able to see them, and they always knocked.
The front entrance of the barn was facing her house, and so she had left that locked, and described where Dimitri could find the back entrance. She left a small light on so he would be able to see the door.
Amberly had lost count of the n umber of times she had glanced at the clock. Eventually, she turned the downstairs clock off so she wouldn't be able to check it obsessively, because as the time Dimitri was due to be there grew nearer, the more nervous she got.
A twig snapped from somewhere outside and Amberly jumped, her heart thudding in her chest. She got up and peered out of a window, drawing the curtain back, but only saw a fox sniffing around outside.
I'm starting to get ridiculous, she thought to herself, dropping the curtain and shaking her head. It's just Dimitri. But that was exactly it. It was Dimitri. She couldn't wait to see him, but at the same time she couldn't help wondering Is he going to show up? It wasn't that Amberly doubted him in any way. It was entirely the fact that if he didn't show up, she would be extremely heartbroken.

Dimitri's heart was hammering in his chest. He had walked along the edge of buildings, arms outstretched like a wings, dove off aforementioned buildings, and jumped on to moving trains. Yet, somehow, sneaking from Dauntless to Amity was scarier than all of those things combined. He was going to see Amberly. At night. In her home.
Alone.
It took him longer than he had expected, but Dimitri finally found the barn Amberly had described. His heartbeat pounded faster and faster until he held his breath to slow it down. Calm the fuck down, Dimitri, he told himself silently as he made his way down a small slope towards the barn. You're just being dumb. There's nothing to be nervous about. It's not like you've never snuck out to see a girl before, he thought, then shook his head. This was different. This was on a completely different level. This was Amberly. She meant so much more than any other girl he'd ever known. Not to mention how much trouble he could get in just for being on her property...
The back door creaked when Dimitri pushed it open, sending a shiver up his spine. "Amberly?" he called out, poking his head in. Somehow it felt wrong to walk in without being invited. Sure, she had invited him over to begin with, but he didn't want to come off rude. He didn't want to do anything to mess things up with her. Not tonight. This was the first time he would be seeing Amberly alone since their time on the roof. Sure, they had brief moments in the hallways, in the dead time between when the halls cleared and the late bells rang, but they hadn't had any real time together since they met two weeks prior. Dimitri had been looking forward to this since Amberly left him on the rooftop alone that night. He would not mess this up.

Anxious thoughts began to take over Amberly's mind as she waited: What if he doesn't show? Did I give him the right directions? What if he gets lost? What if he gets caught? Does he even still like me? What if he's just coming over here to be nice but to tell me the roof thing was just a fluke and he's not actually into me that way? I mean, we've barely seen each other since. Barely been able to hang out at school. What if he's lost interest? What if he's found someone else? A pretty, Dauntless girl his age who isn't afraid of tattoo needles and rooftops. What will he think of my barnhouse? Will he think it's tacky? Is living in a barn stupid? What if he hates it? What if he hates me because of it? Did I clean enough? Is my bra on the floor?! Oh my goodness, where is my laundry? I took it into the house, right? Did I remember to fix my hair after cleaning? Do I smell? What if--
Her paranoid thoughts were cut off at the sound of a door opening and Dimitri's voice. Amberly's heart leapt and her breath caught in her throat. She stepped towards him, her eyes unable to see anything else. He was here. In her barnhouse. Here. All of her worries escaped her as she hurried over to him, pulled him inside, closed the door and wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug. He smelled of fresh air and cold from being outside, but she breathed deeply and picked up the scent she loved most: him. "You came," she murmured into his chest, trying not to sound surprised. After all, she hadn't doubted him. She had doubted herself.
ooc: These are just some of the things in Amberly's barnhouse that I can't think of a non-awkward way to add them into my post: Everywhere in the barn house, both floors: sketches she drew herself. Some of Tyler. Most of nature. Animals, trees, landscapes, etc. One of her family. Upstairs (her bedroom): A full-length mirror. A smaller mirror which is actually Tyler's. her bed (obviously. I'll stop listing obvious things). a few photographs of Tyler.

A warm smile spread across Dimitri's face when Amberly locked her arms around him. He lifted her slightly, kissing her hard. He had missed this so much. He had missed her so much. He couldn't get enough of her. Her taste, her smell, the feel of her body pressed up against his. I've missed you so much, Amberly... he thought. When they finally broke apart, he felt his lips tingling. The sensation slowly spread over his whole body. The familiar feeling that she could never be close enough.
"Of course I came," Dimitri's eyes widened slightly in surprise. "Why on Earth wouldn't I?" If anything, he expected her to not be there. To have given him false directions. To tell him to leave. That she didn't want him. That she found someone else. "These past two weeks have been hell without you," he admitted. In all honesty, Dimitri hadn't slept for more than two hours a night. He just couldn't shake the fact that Amberly should have been there with him, curled up beside him in bed. It felt wrong to be without her. Dimitri could no longer stand the emptiness of his bed. The emptiness that used to make him feel free. Now it just made him lonely.
It wasn't that he wanted to have sex with her. It was, he knew, far too soon for that. It was that he wanted her with him, always, even when he was most vulnerable. He wanted to wake up and feel her warmth beside him. Instead, he felt nothing but air. It felt wrong.
Dimitri looked around Amberly's barn, taking it all in. It was big, yes, but Amberly had still managed to make it feel quaint and homey. The place was covered in sketches. She's really good, he thought as his eyes roamed over them. There were a lot of sketches of her cousin, Tyler, which struck him as odd. She said they were really close, Dimitri recalled. So they must hang out a lot. Plus, he's got such a big ego, he must love modeling for her.

Though she was already ecstatic at Dimitri's mere presence, his smile made her light up even more. It was contagious, and she loved his smile. It lit up his entire face and the fact that she knew the smile was for her made her stomach twist in an excited sort of way. He was happy to see her. And this is why I need to stop doubting and over-thinking things, she scolded herself. Her eyes fluttered closed when Dimitri kissed her and she felt like she was taken to a whole new world; one she had missed greatly. Being able to only see Dimitri at school, the few kisses they had shared were quick, and she was never able to fully enjoy them because she had been scared someone would catch them. An Amity and a Dauntless kissing would be a happening that would spread like wildfire throughout the school. Teenagers were gossipers. And Amberly did not find the spotlight to be very appealing, unlike Tyler. And then there was the topic of Tyler. If someone had seen them and spread it around, Tyler would hear about it. She still hadn't mustered up enough courage to tell him, even after she forgave him for the way he had treated Tania that one day. The possible outcomes were terrifying.
Their kiss, though long-lasting, ended all too soon, and Amberly smiled guiltily at Dimitri's response to her comment. "I was just.. being dumb," she admitted, rolling her eyes at herself. "I wanted to see you so badly that I started worrying you wouldn't show up and I'd be disapppointed. These weeks have been hell," she agreed, amazed at how easy it was to admit her silly worries to him. As much as she freaked out in her mind when she wasn't with him, she was able to act so natural around Dimitri. She was glad.
"I've missed you," she added, beaming up at him. "I'm glad you came. Now we can spend some quality time together and not a passing smile in the school hallway or a few secluded minutes spent worried someone would walk around the corner and see us." She watched nervously as Dimitri looked around the lower level of the small barnhouse. What would he think of it? Her stomach knotted as she remembered her sketches, which were everywhere. They were personal to her; she hoped they didn't suck. She hoped having them up everywhere didn't seem conceited. She hoped Dimitri would appreciate them.

"It's okay," Dimitri laughed when he realized that Amberly had been just as nervous as he was. "I was scared you weren't going to be here, or that you gave me bogus directions," he shook his head, smiling. "Guess we're both paranoid, huh?" He pressed his lips lightly to her forehead. "I was stupid to doubt you."
Dimitri pulled his gaze away from the room and looked back down at Amberly. She looked beautiful, as she always did, but there was something special about her beauty tonight. It was all his. He didn't have to share her with anyone. He didn't have to stop himself from looking at her, or touching her, or kissing her. He didn't have to be afraid that someone was going to pop up out of nowhere and ruin things. Dimitri, of course, wouldn't have denied Amberly if someone did ask, but he knew she would be uncomfortable with people knowing. And it was, unfortunately, much easier for them if no one knew about them just yet. He didn't want to put Amberly through the scandal of being involved with a Dauntless boy. It would make things unnecessarily difficult for her.
"I'm glad I came, too," Dimitri told her. "Not that anything could've kept me away, love." He glanced at her walls again, his eyes resting on a sketch of an unfamiliar landscape. "You know, you really are an amazing artist. It looks like I could just walk right into your sketches."

"I would never do that," Amberly told him, but not in a scolding way. There was no reason for her to scold him for having doubts when she herself had had so many. She just wanted to reassure him that she would never lie to him like that. She cared for him too much. Then why are you keeping Tyler from him? a voice in her head reminded her, making Amberly's stomach churn with guilt. Amberly shook her head after he kissed her. "You weren't stupid," she told him sincerely. "I guess we were both just anxious." She tried to push the Tyler thoughts out of her mind. But she couldn't keep it from him. The best time to tell him was tonight. She had every opportunity. Just not yet.
She caught Dimitri's eye as he looked down at her, and a soft smile rested on her lips as she took in the sight of him. Whoever thought beautiful wasn't a word to describe a male had to be wrong, because to her, that's what Dimitri was. His face, his stature, his eyes... There was no better word than beautiful. Perhaps there was handsome, but she felt that was more to describe looks alone. Dimitri's beauty was more poetic in Amberly's mind. But she couldn't put it into the right words. She was better at drawing than at writing. That was where her artistic talent went. Others were better with words. Without really thinking about it, Amberly lifted an arm up and brusher her fingers softly against Dimitri's neck. It was an unusual body part to adore, but she liked his neck. Necks were overlooked. People tended to focus more on broader parts of the body, or more sexual parts, such as one's chest or lips or backside or legs. But Amberly liked his neck. She wished they were sitting so she was at a non-awkward height where she could reach it better. She wanted to trace her lips across his skin...
Amberly blinked when Dimitri spoke again, snapping out of her thoughts. She smiled at his words. "I'm glad you didn't get caught," she added. Sometimes guards from Dauntless patrolled at night, though she rarely saw them. She bet Dimitri's dark clothing helped conceal him.
A blush crept up her neck and onto her cheeks when Dimitri complimented her sketches. "That would be a very black and white world you'd step into," she replied modestly. "With lots of pencil etchings." She wasn't very good at using colours, though. She had tried her hand at painting, but her work looked like a five year old had painted it. She was better with a pencil. Sometimes she experimented with coloured pencils, but she didn't do full colour. Usually she just picked one colour for one piece, if she wanted it to stand out in the drawing.

"I know," Dimitri shrugged nonchalantly. "I was just worried. It was stupid of me. But it doesn't matter. I came. And you're here. We're together, finally. That's what really matters." He smiled, brushing a strand of her hair back behind her ear. His hand lingered on it's way back, fingertips brushing against the smooth line of her jaw. "We're going to have to work on this anxiety, aren't we?" He laughed, his hand dropping from her face. He took her hand in his, squeezing softly.
Amberly's fingertips raised goosebumps on Dimitri's skin where they touched. A shiver rippled down his spine. How can someone so perfect want me? He didn't ever want her to pull her hand away. "You know, Ice Queen or no Ice Queen," a small smile flashed on Dimitri's face, "You are the loveliest creature that I ever did see." He let go of Amberly's hand, only to plant his both on the soft curve of her waist. He pulled her in close, erasing any memory of space between them. Dimitri didn't kiss her, though he wanted to. He just held her tight, breathing in her warmth and the unified sounds of their breathing. He swore he could hear both their heartbeats.
God, I don't know if I'll ever be able to leave, Dimitri thought to himself, Nope, I don't think I can do it.

Ooc: When do you want Tyler to come in? I was thinking at a time Dimberly is kissing. It's freak Tyler out more. Ic:
"That's what matters," Amberly agreed. Even though he was there and she could see and feel him, Amberly could hardly believe that he really was. Here they were, together alone again, with no one and nothing to interrupt them. They could even stay there all night and no one would know any different. Amberly smiled at the thought. "You're not allowed to leave," she told him, gazing into his eyes. "I'm holding you prisoner. As Ice Queen, that's my ruling, I've decided." Amberly grinned at him, her eyes shining with mischief. "So you can't say no," she added, squeezing his hand back.
She blushed intensely at Dimitri's compliment, casting her gaze down at their hands. She felt speechless, unsure if she should say thank you or if that would be too conceited. I've hung out with Tyler too much. I'm worried I might sound like him. Remembering that she needed to stop worrying, Amberly beamed up at Dimitri, not caring if he song her blush. "Thank you," she whispered breathlessly.
When he pulled her closer, she drew in a breath, and was truly rendered speechless. They were so close, and all she wanted to do was stay like this. And kiss him. And just look at him. For a while she forgot to breathe, and only noticed when her lungs began to burn. Amberly exhaled slowly and linked her fingers together behind Dimitri's neck. "Dimitri," she whispered then, her voice soft in the silence. She couldn't tear her eyes from him. She was almost afraid that if she did, she would open them only to find him gone.

OOC: I'm ready when you are~
Dimitri laughed, "I have no problem with that, My Queen. I'll stay here forever, if you'll have me," he told her, his voice a quiet murmur. His hands itched to explore, to touch her, but he kept them planted firmly where they were. We have all the time in the world for that, he thought, though he knew they didn't really. For all he knew, they only had eight months. Eight fucking months... Dimitri sighed, unable to catch himself before it slipped out. He tried to cover it with a cough, but doubted that Amberly bought it.
"You're welcome," Dimitri told her. He looked around the room again briefly, contemplating how nice it would be to curl up on a couch or a bed with Amberly and just... be. He spotted a sofa and wondered if he could suggest sitting without sounding forward. He knew he wouldn't be asking her to make out with him or do anything else-- just sort of... cuddle (as unmanly as it was). But he didn't know if she would know that, and didn't want to be taken the wrong way.
Communicating with girls was ridiculously complicated.
The thoughts vanished from his mind when Amberly whispered his name, and he ducked down to kiss her again, feeling like he was flying. No matter how many times he kissed her, he knew he would always feel like this. Weightless. Invincible. Whole. Nothing in the world could ever compare to kissing Amberly.

Amberly's heart skipped in her chest when Dimitri's face moved closer to her, finally closing the gap between them completely. It felt like it had been forever since they had last kissed like this, so at first she kissed him back intensely, as if her life depended on it. Eventually, however, she relaxed in his arms and into his kiss, one hand slipping from her grip around his neck to rest on his chest, just over his heart so she could feel its beat. Though the heartbeat was not what her mind was mostly focused on, Amberly could swear it was in sync with her own. And nothing could ruin this perfect moment.
Or so she thought.
Tyler had not seen Amberly much at school. Everytime he did, she would run off. He wasn't sure if she was doing it on purpose or not, but it was annoying, and it hurt. Was she avoiding him? It certainly felt like it. Ever since that day two weeks ago when he took her to the roof. And then it had gotten only worse the day he had fought with Tania. But Amberly had forgiven him for that, so why was she still avoiding him? They had not had any evenings spent together hanging out in her barnhouse, so he decided that tonight was as good as any. He missed her. He missed the way she used to look at him. He missed the soft touch of her hands on his face and through his hair -- the was the only person in the world he would allow to touch his hair. Even his ex-girlfriends had been dumped or yelled at for it. But Amberly was different. She meant more to him than anyone else. He loved her. Didn't she still love him?
Tyler pulled out the key Amberly had given him once she had moved into the barnhouse. Her front door was always locked, even though Amity was safe. Pushing the key into the lock, he turned it and opened the door. As he pulled the key out, a grin spread across his face as his eyes caught sight of Amberly's hair. It was so beautiful. She was so beautiful. And he was finally going to get to spend time with her. But then he saw why she wasn't facing the door. Because there was someone in front of her. A guy. And he was way too close.
The front door slammed, pushed by a furious Tyler. The sound reverberated around the small room and Amberly jumped back from Dimitri, whipping around in fright to find the source of the noise. At first she thought it was a gunshot. But then she saw that the sound had been caused by something far more terrifying.
Tyler.

Dimitri jumped away from Amberly, just as she had jumped away from him, when the door slammed shut. Oh, great, he thought, rolling his eyes. The overprotective, egotistical cousin. Tyler looked absolutely furious; so Amberly wasn't kidding when she said he was overprotective. Dimitri sighed. "You want something, Tyler?" he said dryly. He was not in the mood to have his evening with Amberly ruined by some asshole. "We were kind of hanging out. So, if you don't mind..." Dimitri knew he was being unnecessarily rude, but Tyler had no business here. He had no right to barge in with murder in his eyes like he did.
Dimitri looked over at Amberly, wondering why she looked so scared. Yes-- Tyler had saw them kissing. Yes-- he was mad. No-- they technically shouldn't be together. No-- Dimitri shouldn't be in her room. But Amberly had said that she and Tyler were close, right? He cared about her, didn't he? He wouldn't fuck her over. He didn't seem like that much of an asshole. Not to Amberly, anyway. So the look of fear on her face just didn't seem to fit.

All noise stopped. Amberly stood frozen, her mouth partly open as she stared at Tyler in shock. She felt lightheaded and dizzy. This wasn't actually happening. Tyler was not there. This was another nightmare she was having triggered by the fear of this happening. It was all in her head. Or so she wished. Tyler was here. Dimitri was here. She had just been kissing Dimitri. Tyler had seen. Tyler was furious. Dimitri was in the dark as to exactly why Tyler was furious. He would hate her. And all Amberly would be left with was an empty heart, and an angry Tyler. I'm dead, she thought, bringing her right hand up to her mouth as she gasped.
Tyler glared back and forth between Amberly and some Dauntless guy. He narrowed his eyes. Was this the guy he had left Amberly with up on the school roof two weeks ago? Realization dawned on him; when he had left Amberly up on that roof, she had gotten to know this guy a little too well for Tyler's liking. And that was why she had been so distant with him. She had been lying. A true, conniving Amity, trying to avoid all conflict by lying. "How could you," Tyler hissed at Amberly, ignoring the Dauntless' rude comment. Tyler would get to him after. He wanted nothing more than to tackle the guy who had been kissing his Amberly, and to rip out his throat. Tyler's anger had no boundaries. But first there was Amberly to deal with. She had lied to him. She never lied to him. Her betrayal... it hurt more than he thought it would have.
"Tyler," Amberly choked out, her face scrunching up under her hands as guilty tears welled up in her eyes. She glanced at Dimitri, who she guessed had no idea the extent of how bad this was, and felt like her heart was going to be ripped out of her chest. She could see it in Dimitri's eyes: he didn't understand. He didn't know. But he would, and there was nothing Amberly could do anymore to prevent it. She had dug her own grave.
"Don't!" Tyler warned her, taking a step in her direction. "Don't give me that 'poor little Amberly' look. I've seen it many times, but you can't..." He shook his head furiously, his chest heaving, his fists clenched. He needed to punch something, and soon. "You've always been different from most Amity's. Instead of lying and hiding things, you've always been pure, Amberly. And now you go and betray me in the worst way! I come here to see you because I've been confused as to how distant you've been with me, and I walk in to find you locking lips with a fucking Dauntless? Are you crazy?! The last time you hung out with a Dauntless, you nearly died!" he reminded her. "You were caught in that school fire. I know you haven't forgotten. You still have the burns! And what about me?" he asked, his voice so loud she was sure her parents would hear, had the windows been open. "HOw fucking dare you?! What the fuck!" he shouted, swinging his arm out and sending a lamp crashing to the floor. Amberly gasped and flinched away from him. She knew he wouldn't hurt her, but... Or would he? She had never seen him so angry. And it was all because she had been a horrible lying little bitch. She knew that. She was a terrible person.

Dimitri's eyes widened when Tyler began yelling. Instinctively, he moved in front of Amberly to protect her. He didn't know this guy very well. He didn't know what he was capable of. Nothing was making any sense-- not the accusations of betrayal, not the hurt in his eyes, not the jealousy dripping off his voice.
"What the fuck are you talking about?" Dimitri demanded, beyond confused. Was Tyler drunk or something? High? He didn't look it. He just looked mad. But he wasn't making any sense. How the hell did kissing him equate to betraying Tyler? They were cousins. Sure, he could be pissed she was with a guy who was probably no good for her according to stereotypes. But he had no reason to feel betrayed. Had she promised him not to date or something stupid like that?
When Tyler knocked the lamp to the floor, Dimitri found himself pushing Amberly farther back. "Hey, you need to calm the fuck down and go home, Tyler. I don't know what the hell is going on but if you think I'm letting you anywhere near Amberly while you're like this, you've got another thing coming," he glanced down at the broken lamp, wondering why he was so pissed. "Get out."

"Do not," Tyler said warning to Dimitri, "tell me to calm down. Do you realise what she's done? No, you don't. Because she's been lying to you too! You stand there protecting her like she's some innocent little angelic girl who would never harm a fly. And maybe she wouldn't. She won't even let me kill a spider when it crawls around here. But it's not the little bugs she harms. She doesn't just put people out of their misery. She slowly sinks her venom into them until just the right moment where it tears them apart for her to watch. And yet she still stands there like she's an innocent little Amity. Well she's not," he snarled, finding his rage more towards Amberly than Dimitri. For now.
Amberly's entire body shook as she held back sobs. Tyler's words stung her, and she felt like he was punching her in the gut. "Tyler, I'm n-not," she choked out, tears streaming down her face. "I di-dn't try to.. I would never hurt you. on purpose," she added, lowering her gaze in shame.
As Dimitri stood in front of Amberly protectively, she lost it. Forcing herself to calm down enough to speak, Amberly reached forward and tugged on his arm. She did not date to look at him; she didn't want to see the hatred and disgust that would surely be directed towards her in a moment. "Dimitri, Tyler... and I..." She faltered and shook her head, her crying gone except the tear stains on her cheeks. She didn't deserve to cry. To feel hurt. She was venemous like Tyler said. She had lied to both Dimitri and Tyler.
"You see?" Tyler snapped. "You can't even say it! You're a fucking coward, Amberly! What did you think? Using a Dauntless like this would rub off on you and you'd become less pathetic and more brave? That didn't work with being with me! You can't even tell the truth, even now! You're fucked up, Amberly," he said, pointing at her. He didn't care that her stupid Dauntless boy toy was standing in front of her. She could still hear his words. "You're a true Amity, and that's no compliment, Amb." His next words he spoke calmly, and clear as day. "You're the type of Amity who will do anything to get what she wants, but everything and more to hide her mistakes just to avoid conflict. To avoid confrontation. You're so fucking selfish, you stupid, lying bitch." He looked at Dimitri, a smug look crossing his face. He ignored Amberly, who was staring at Tyler with a shocked expression. He didn't know why she was so shocked; she's the one who had done this. Tyler was taking things much too far. He was over-reacting to the extreme, but he was not lying. Everything he was saying, he believed. Though he was acting crazy and furious and looked like he wanted to kill her, he would take Amberly back in a heartbeat (after he finished raging and broke a few things -- he hoped those things would be Dimitri's bones).
"She didn't tell you that she was already involved with someone when you two got together," he told the Dauntless, again ignoring Amberly this time as she gasped. "And she still is. Was. Whatever." He glared at Amberly, this time the hurt evident in his eyes as the pain of her betrayal finally hit him. She had always been so honest with him. And now she had lied. She never used to be a liar.
